1965 Shelby GT-350 "R" Model

This is one of the few original 1965 GT 350 "R" models ever produced by Shelby American. The GT350 R was the first time an American manufacturer offered a strictly-for-racing competition model which could be purchased from a dealer and which would require nothing after delivery. These cars could literally be delivered directly to the track and raced the way they came off the transport. This particular "R" model was 1 of 2 sponsored by Dockery Ford of Morristown, N.J. for the 1966 season. The Dockery dealership was very involved in racing and sponsored 5R105, driven by the famous Mark Donahue.

After many years of separation, 5R105 was located by the original owners, Dockery Ford, and then taken to LMC for a complete nut and bolt restoration back to the way it was raced in 1966 by Mark Donahue himself. The Dockery Ford race team has now been fully reunited as 5R105 joins another previous LMC restoration, 5R100, the other original Dockery Ford "R" model. Since the restorations were completed, both cars have been awarded the very prestigious "Premiere" in Division 1 - Stock original/NOS cars only (2006 SAAC for 5R100, and 2009 SAAC for 5R105). This car scored a extremely impressive 896 out of 900 and even higher if not for a headlight acting up!!! Although their racing days may be done, these cars continue to be enjoyed by the public at select events, and by the original family that sponsored their racing endeavours back 1966.
