  With its new mid-engine configuration and sleek, modern design, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette offers unprecedented performance. The iconic American sports car has been reinvented after decades of wondering when GM would decide to switch from its traditional front-engine layout to a mid-engine platform, taking its performance capabilities even higher.

  Under the rear bonnet, is the 6.2-liter LT2 V-8 in the C8's tail makes 495 horsepower with the dual-mode performance exhaust that's included in the Z51 package (base cars without that exhaust make 490hp). That's up 35 ponies from the C7 Z51's engine, which keeps the pounds-per-horsepower ratios of the two cars virtually equal. The magic of the C8 Stingray starts with a chassis developed with 60.6 percent of its mass over the rear tires—the C7 Stingray had a roughly 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution—the C8 is ferocious off the line.  Aided by its quick-shifting eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and a well-calibrated launch-control system, the C8 rips off zero-to-60-mph runs in 2.8 seconds. That's 1.1 seconds quicker than the last C7 Z51 we tested with a manual transmission. The C8 even betters the zero-to-60-mph runs of the quickest 650hp Z06 and 755hp ZR1 both of which lose the struggle with grip in low gears. Yes, they are traveling faster than the new Vette by the end of the quarter-mile, which the C8 does in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph, but the point is made: The mid-engine configuration pays off from a standing start.

  This 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is a highly spec’d example finished in menacing Black metallic accented by Midnight Gray full stripes. Optioned with the 3LT package which includes all the luxury options of the 2LT plus the addition of Competition seats, carbon fiber trim, custom leather-wrapped interior, Suede-wrapped upper interior trim and leather-wrapped door panels. For added performance, the Z51 package was ordered which includes performance brakes, magnetic ride, performance exhaust, electronic limited slip rear differential, enhanced cooling, front brake cooling ducts, Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires, front splitter and rear spoiler. Other options include Red painted calipers, sueded microfiber-wrapped steering wheel, custom interior trim and seat override, adrenaline red custom leather and battery protection package.
