LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 2019 Chevrolet COPO Camaro 50th Anniversary Edition

The original 1969 COPO Camaro was inspired by Illinois-based Chevrolet dealer Fred Gibb, who used the company’s special-order system to build what wasn’t already offered in the Camaro. The goal was to make the car more competitive in Stock Eliminator drag racing, which was rooted in production-based vehicles. It occurred to Gibb that Chevrolet’s in-house special-order system, known as Central Office Production Order (COPO), could provide an advantage. Typically, the COPO system was used for fleet vehicle services such as special paint or truck equipment, but Gibb used it to equip the Camaro with the all-aluminum ZL1 427 racing engine. With its lightweight block and heads, the ZL1 427 engine weighed about 100 pounds less than the iron-based 396 Big Block engine offered in the Camaro and produced more power. It was the perfect solution for the drag strip. Only 69 original ZL1 Camaros were produced and now have become one of the most expensive and desirable muscle cars in the world.

Chevrolet opened the next chapter in the COPO Camaro legacy in 2011 with the introduction of a COPO Camaro race car concept at the SEMA Show. The overwhelming response helped Chevrolet make the decision to build the new COPO Camaro race cars in 2012.

In 2019, Chevrolet offered a special 50th Anniversary edition of the COPO painted in a special Anniversary Blue Metallic exterior color that pays homage to the original Laguna Blue offered in 1969. Additionally, a 50th Anniversary Engine Appearance Package that emulates the look of vintage Chevy performance engines, with an orange engine block, chrome valve covers and a black high-rise intake manifold is offered.

This 2019 Chevrolet COPO Camaro offered here for sale is #32 of the 69 examples built and is brand new having never been started or driven! Under the cowl hood lies the optional LSX 427ci V8 which is the same cubic inch as the original and comes mated to a race prepared three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a carbon-fiber hood, wheelie bars, two racing bucket seats, Simpson harnesses, and AutoMeter instrumentation. Options include the Engine Appearance Package and the Racer’s Package, which added a parachute, trunk-mounted weight box, and dual batteries. Additional factory modifications include deletion of the side view mirrors, a parachute, and an engine shut-off switch on the rear bumper.

Complete with an extra set of Weld Racing wheels, two Simpson Driving Suits and Simpson racing gloves this 2019 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is ready to used on the dragstrip or preserved in your collection!
