2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06/Z07

Stunning, High performance track ready Z06/Z07   

When GM first released the Z06, they wanted the world to know that it could take on the best of Europe with the new 505-hp pushrod 7.0-liter V-8 engine.  To make that point, GM held the first press drive of this American sports car in Europe.  At the time, it was the fastest Corvette the company had ever produced, which is a considerable accomplishment given the Corvette racing pedigree and dozens of previous high performance models.

While the horsepower is an impressive figure, many do not realize the weight savings General Motor engineers put the Z06 through.  The aluminum frame weighs a third less than the regular Vette's heavier steel unit.  To retain chassis rigidity, the Z06 opts for a fixed cast-magnesium structure and another magnesium piece for the engine cradle.  Weight was also shed by using carbon-fiber floorboards, front fenders and liners.  The end result is a mosaic of materials.  When all was said and done to the Z06, it weighed in at 3147 pounds,  141 less than the base Vette.  To put that in perspective the Ferrari F430 weighs 3380 pounds, and Porsche's Carrera GT weighs 3146 pounds. The Z07 also has other weight saving measures unique to high performance corvettes, it is equipped with the CFZ Carbon fibre package which adds aggressive aero tweaks in the form of a front splitter, rockers, roof panel and ZR1 style rear spoiler.

This particular Z06 is presented in Cyber Grey Metallic with Ebony leather interior and most importantly  features the Z07  package. Already a potent performer the Z07 package borrows many high performance features found on the already well proven ZR1. At first glance you spot the ZR1 style alloy wheels, what they lack in chrome finish they make up for in a wonderful matching grey metallic color scheme. Wrapped around the massive 19in front and 20in rears are a set of  Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tires to help deliver the power from the 7.0L V8 to the pavement. One of the most important features however is the magnetic ride control which was nothing new to the Corvette. However it was not an option for a Z06 Corvette which was finally added to the options list in 2011. With the now available adjustable suspension allows the driver to set a firm ride to allow for a blistering fast lap, and on the way home set it to the soft touring mode and comfortably drive it home.
