The Viper was initially conceived in late 1988 at Chrysler's Advanced Design Studios with the idea of producing a modern Cobra. "Team Viper" was established and they asked the then-Chrysler subsidiary Lamborghini to cast a prototype aluminum block for the sports car. Not long after Carroll Shelby piloted a pre-production V10 car as the pace vehicle in the Indianapolis 500.

Since its introduction in 1992, the Dodge Viper instantly become one of the pinnacles of America Sports Car performance. Although the sparsely appointed street race cars in the initial generation convertible styling were well accepted there was a demand for more comforts. By 2008, the new 8.4 L / 512.6 cu in V10 Viper produced a whopping 600 bhp. The new Tremec TR6060 Transmission provided triple first-gear synchronizers and doubles for higher gears. The Dana M44-4 rear axle had a GKN ViscoLok speed-sensing limited-slip differential that greatly helped the tires in getting grip under acceleration and makes this Viper much better in cornering and control. For comfort, the 2008 Viper exhaust had no crossover thereby reducing the heat that enters the cockpit. This Viper SRT-10, known as Gen IV, certainly had Chrysler ready to take on any challenge from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Car and Driver magazine tested the car, and found a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.5 seconds at 126 mph. Dodge's claims for top speed were 197 mph for the Roadster. Car and Driver also tested the Viper's track performance and managed a fast sub-3 minute lap time around Virginia International Raceway. The Viper's time, despite hot weather, was faster than the Corvette Z06, Ford GT, Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 Turbo, 911 GT3, and 911 GT2, Audi R8, and similar cars. For Chrysler, success was simply measured in the quarter-mile rips in Corvette Z06-humbling times.

This particular 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster has been collector owned. The SRT10 Roadster Black interior cockpit retains its characteristic red push-button starter and performance-oriented, functional instrument panel with center-mounted Tachometer and 220-mph speedometer. Viper comes with great standard features such as Air Conditioning, RDS audio system with AM/FM/Six-disc Changer, Tire-pressure Monitoring, Power Locks/Steering/Windows, Adjustable Pedals and Anti-lock Brake System. The Viper remains, true to the legend it is creating, a mighty fine sports car with exotic race track inspired styling and is explosively fast.

Sure, the Mopar enthusiasts believe the Viper Snake is more dramatic to look at and creates more of a stir than the Corvette…let that debate continue.
