2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Wil Cooksey Limited Edition

Putting the three numbers 4-2-7 with the name Corvette has always meant incredible performance. The modern version in the form of the Z06 is no exception. Introduced for the 2006 model year, the 505 hp, 7.0L LS7 equipped Z06 can sprint to 60 mph in 3.74 seconds and cover the ¼ mile in under 12.0 seconds and still pull a full 1.0g's on the skidpad; an incredible car by any standards. Although not as plentiful as a regular production Corvette coupe, the Z06 is none the less relatively common. Where does the Corvette collector go if he wants that epic performance and something more exclusive? The 2008 Corvette Z06 Wil Cooksey Limted edition is just the answer.

Wil Cooksey began his career with General Motors after service in the US Army Artillery. While with the US. Army Wil did a one year stint in Vietnam, and his distinguished service earned him a Bronze Star Medal. He ended his army career with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1976 he began his career with General Motors, starting in Flint, Michigan as an assistant professor in Industrial Engineering. After a series of transfers and promotions Wil Cooksey landed his dream job with GM in 1993 when he was named Plant Manager for the Bowling Green, Kentucky Corvette assembly plant. This plant has been the home production facility of America's sports car since 1981. At the end of his 15 year tenure as the Plant manager GM decided to celebrate his retirement with this special edition Z06. They also provided him one last task, to oversee the assembly of all 505 examples named in his honor.

The Wil Cooksey limited edition, which had a RPO code Z44, came with a number of upgrades over a regular Z06, including: Special "Crystal Red Tintcoat" exterior color, body color door handles and rear spoiler, "Stinger" style graphics and "427" hood badges as a homage to the Stinger hoods of the C2 Stingray. Add to that,"Spider design" chrome alloy wheels, special Titanium interior with Crystal Red carbon style interior trim and Z06 embroidered headrests and carpets. The special equipment list continued with Z06 styled door sill plates, and finally the Wil Cooksey signature and individual number applied to the underside of the driver's armrest. All Wil Cooksey cars also came standard with the 3LZ equipment group which added:

* Side-impact airbags (driver and passenger)

* Steering-wheel-mounted radio controls

* Enhanced acoustic package

* Rear-compartment cargo net and luggage shade

* Memory package

* Heated seats (driver and passenger)

* Universal home remote

* Power telescoping steering column

* Custom, leather-wrapped interior (leather-wrapped upper instrument panel, upper door trim panels, and console storage cover; exclusive leather color and two-tone design, including seat headrest "tonal" crossed-flag embroidery and enhanced armrest padding; special, bias-pattern console trim plate)

Rounding out the long specification of this Wil Cooksey car, #235, is the optional GM touch screen navigation system, which was the only option available.

Couple this long list of equipment with the performance of the LS7 505hp 7.0L engine and it is not only a pleasant car to drive, but can provide Ferrari like performance whenever asked.
