The Ford GT began as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year. The legendary Carroll Shelby assisted in the development as Ford was determined to build an all-new supercar with performance on par with the world's most exclusive -- and expensive -- supercars. Ford GT's are one of the most successful combinations of classic and modern design.

The GT is similar in outward appearance to the original Ford GT40 cars, but bigger, wider, and taller.  As much a spitting image of the original GT40 LeMans winner as you could beg for, but inside and underneath, it is a showcase of advanced engineering, technology and manufacturing.  In the tradition of authentic GT racers, the doors wrap up into the roof and its quarter-panel scoops channel fresh air to the hungry engine, which is the heart and soul of this modern American exotic. The mid-mounted 5.4 L Modular V8 engine is all-aluminum with a Lysholm twin screw-type supercharger. Here is a rare Heritage Edition GT, outfitted in the famous Gulf Racing Team colors, which is the most sought version by both collectors and Ford racing fans. In fact it displays the famous #6 which was the 1969 Lemans winner driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver. The Heritage color scheme was a $13,000 option representing only 17% of production. Striking in Heritage Blue and Epic Orange stripes with White roundels that recalls the Gulf Oil sponsored GT 40's of the 60's which many believe to be the most desirable to showcase the ultra-sleek design and the stance of this street-legal race car.

Mounted behind the passenger compartment and beneath a glass panel in the clamshell engine cover, the 5.4 Liter Super-charged aluminum V8 engine generates 500hp. The supercharged engine, inside a spotless engine room, features Ford Blue valve covers and has the personal touch of a small plaque signed by the engine builders. A 6-speed Ricardo manual transaxle shunts the power to meaty 19" Goodyear Eagle F1 rear tires mounted on the gorgeous classic cast aluminum GT wheels. This power package provides vicious performance; GT will accelerate from 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds, and march on to 205mph before the speed limiter kicks in - so understandable that you will be tempted to apply a heavy foot to the throttle and have the engine push the "Powered by Ford" sound for all to enjoy.
