Unveiled to tremendous acclaim at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Ford GT40 concept stunned enthusiasts as a contemporary homage to Ford’s legendary Le Mans-winning GT40s. Designed under Camilo Pardo and engineered by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, the concept’s success led to full-scale production for the company’s centennial celebrations. Trademark issues required the “40” to be dropped from the name, but the Ford GT that emerged for 2005 delivered every bit of the heritage, performance, and charisma of its racing forebears.
This particular 2005 Ford GT is one of the rarest configurations produced—finished in striking Mark IV Red and ordered new with the optional stripe-delete exterior, eliminating the traditional Le Mans stripes for a cleaner, more purposeful appearance. According to production data, only 14 examples of the 2005 GT were built in this color and stripe-delete combination, making it one of the most exclusive variants in the entire run of 2,022 units for the model year.
Beneath its mid-engine clamshell rests Ford’s Eaton-supercharged 5.4-liter aluminum V8, factory-rated at 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed Ricardo manual transmission. Massive Brembo brakes, a race-inspired suspension, and an all-aluminum chassis ensure that the GT’s performance lives up to its iconic design. Optional lightweight BBS forged aluminum wheels and Xenon HID headlamps complement the minimalist, competition-bred presentation.
Inside, the cockpit features black leather bucket seats with four-way adjustment, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and the optional McIntosh audiophile sound system, blending modern refinement with purposeful design.
Originally delivered through Indio Ford in California in April 2005, this GT now shows just 7,720 miles and comes complete with its original window sticker, sales brochure, owner’s manual, factory car cover, full service manual, wiring diagram manual, and a signed Ford GT production book featuring autographs from members of the engineering and build team.
