Under the careful supervision of Ford's Special Vehicle Team boss John Coletti the team set about to build a follow up to the impressive 1993 and 1995 Cobra R's. These cars were simple in premise, stripped out, light weight track oriented cars. Special suspension, special drivetrain and engine modifications, anything not necessary was removed to save weight - no sound deadening materials or insulation, no A/C, no back seat, radio delete and a fuel cell instead of a fuel tank. For the 2000 "R" model they even took it a step further, Brembo brakes, B&M Shifter on a Tremec T56 6 speed transmission, Recaro racing seats, Borla side exit exhaust with Bassani X pipe, Eibach coil springs with Bilstein shocks special 5.4L DOHC 32v naturally aspirated engine with 385hp finished off with the wildest, yet very functional aero accessories ever seen on a production Mustang. The end result was a car capable of 170 mph top speed, over 1.01g's on the skid pad, braking 60-0 in under 110 feet and 12 second ¼ mile times. Only 300 were produced, an incredible all around car and well deserving of the name "R".

Presented here is #096 of the 300 2000 Cobra "R" Mustangs produced. Collector owned and maintained since new, this special Mustang shows only 1,473 original miles since new. The car shows beautifully throughout, the Recaro seats show no wear, the fiberglass hood which is prone to cracking across the front is in perfect condition. Of course included with the car is the original Cobra R binder including all information about the model and specifically this car such as SVT Certificate of Authentication, original uninstalled build plaque, a complete run down on the special parts used for the Cobra R models and photos documenting the special build process all "R" models went through. For the Ford or performance Mustang enthusiast, this is perhaps the ultimate Mustang, incredible performance and limited production, the makings of a future classic!
