From 1996 to 2002 Ferrari introduced the 550 Maranello, the first Ferrari since the Daytona to be a 2-seater front engine GT. The progress of technology ensured that the front engine configuration provided the same level of performance of mid-engine designs. The name Maranello pays tribute to the Scuderia Ferrari founding location in 1929. Although the 550 is powered by a 5.5L V12, it wasn’t all about performance. Like the front engine Ferraris of the 1950s and 60s, it is also meant for cross country travel, and comfort. The drivability of the 550 Maranello was quite impressive with a spacious cockpit, smooth suspension, and excellent stability. Ferrari would only produce 3,083 of these revolutionary GTs, making them fairly rare to see, and creating the beginning sense of collectability.
