2000 Ferrari 550 Marenello

Modern F1 inspired engineering, Ferrari racing heritage and rare colour

Maranello.  A name that pays tribute to the Scuderia Ferrari founding location by Enzo himself in 1929.  Production of street-legal vehicles commenced from the Maranello headquarters in   1947 under Ferrari S.p.A.

Sergio Pininfarina relished designing the 550 Maranello, carefully honing the shape under 4,800 hours in the wind tunnel.  "It reminded me of how I felt in the 1950s, when I was first working with Ferrari," he said.  Ferrari returned to the front-engine configuration with this car because of the progress of technology allowed the same level of performance of a mid engine design with better comfort and luggage room.  Compared to the Ferrari 512M, the 550 had three inches more legroom and 1.5 inches more head room, plus a larger trunk and a small storage area behind the seats.

The recipe starts with the engine, and the 550's 5474cc V-12 is a masterpiece.  It features Ferrari racing secrets such as a variable-volume intake manifold, titanium connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, four valves per cylinder, and four cams.  Horsepower is rated at an impressive 485 at 7600 rpm, with a great deal of its 420 pound-feet of torque available at 3500 rpm.  The largest engineering stride was the new ASR traction control.  This featured three modes: Normal, Sport, and Off.  It would cut back engine power if it sensed a rear wheel slipping, and if things got particularly unruly, the computer-controlled system would activate the ventilated disc brakes' anti lock technology to intervene.  The ABS also balanced braking effort between the front and rear brakes when deceleration reached more than 0.5g.

This 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello is presented in Nero Daytona metallic black with black Daytona style leather seats, creating a very rare Ferrari, as most are red paint on tan leather.  Ferrari side shields and classic Ferrari branding captures the heritage of such a vehicle, while still pushing the styling into the modern era.   Factory five spoke pattern wheels are emphasised by the Ferrari branded red brake calipers, which manage massive ventilated disc brakes.  The V-12 engine is paired with a 6 speed manual transmission which features a gated style shift action and with the accompanying metal shift ball, creates the desirable metallic "clink" noise between shifts.  The incredible engine note of this Maranello Ferrari comes out of four aggressive looking exhaust tips which extend outward from the vehicle similar to the signature Ferrari tail lights.  Next to an eight thousand RPM tachometer,  this 550 indicates that only 12,500 kilometers have been put on the car since new.

To conclude, this 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello represents an incredible opportunity to own a very rare, incredibly fast and surprisingly practical vehicle.  Please feel free to inquire about this vehicle in person, as this Ferrari has a strong and immediate attraction when in the presence of such a breathtaking Italian sportscar.
