LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1998 Jaguar XK8 Convertible
It’s no mistake that the XK8 coupe’s European launch took place at Geneva in March 1996 at the venue where the E-Type had made its debut 35 years earlier and that the convertible was launched in New York a month later, just as the E-Type had been in 1961. On the one hand, as a replacement for the XJS, the XK8 took GT refinement to another level, yet it also evoked the E-Type, not just in its curvaceous form but in its verve and eagerness. For example, by comparison with the XJS the platform of the XK8 was a full 25% stiffer, altogether more poised and precise and sharper, faster and more responsive. Key to that was Jaguar’s first V-8: an all-alloy, four-cam, 32-valve, 4.0L unit delivering 294 HP that, with the 5-speed ZF automatic transmission mated to a limited-slip differential, propelled the XK8 to a speed-limited 155 MPH. Traction control and ABS were standard.
Powered by a 4.0L V-8 and automatic transmission, this 1998 Jaguar XK8 Convertible has a notably modest odometer reading of just 16,925 miles with a specification that includes a powered convertible top, power windows and locks, cruise control, air conditioning and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. Finished in purposeful black with matching top, its interior of black leather and burl walnut trim on the dash and center console are quintessential Jaguar hallmarks. One notable flourish, which pays homage to the E-Type, is the chromed wired wheels with twin-eared hub spinners in place of the regulation XK8 alloys.
It’s a measure of the XK8’s thorough and lengthy development program that the model received little in the way of significant upgrades or major styling revisions over its production life from 1996 to 2006. In other words, it was right straight out of the box and went on to outsell both the E-Type and XJS, in the process helping to revive the company’s fortunes and rebuild its reputation. This early low-mileage example is testament to that.
