1991 GMC Syclone

The 1991-1992 GMC Syclone set a new performance standard for hot-rod pickups, combining turbo power, all-wheel-drive, and a sport-tuned suspension. Acceleration of the compact Syclone rivaled the day's best muscle cars, and handling wasn't far behind.  The Syclone was based on GMC's regular-cab compact Sonoma pickup, sharing the 108.3-inch wheelbase and a six-foot cargo box.

Under the hood of the Syclone is a modified Vortec V-6 engine.  GM engineers added a liquid-intercooled turbocharger running 14-psi boost, 8.35:1 compression, port injectors, special pistons, oil cooler, and dual exhaust outlets. That yielded a thunderous 280 horsepower and 350 lbs/ft of torque at 3600.  A four-speed automatic was the only transmission available.

This 1991 GMC Syclone perfectly fits the old saying of "a wolf in sheeps clothing."  A blast from 0-60 mph is claimed to be under 5.0 seconds.  Applying the Syclone's turbo torque to the rear wheels only would have caused serious traction problems.  So GMC installed all-wheel-drive.  The system features a viscous coupling and 35-percent front and 65-percent rear torque split. A limited-slip differential further aided grip.  GMC marketed the Syclone as "the first four-wheel anti-lock braking system ever available on a pickup truck" and features front disc brakes to provide necessary stopping power.

Production was very limited in 1991 and production ceased after the 1992 model year, therefore this GMC Syclone is a very collectable and rarely seen.  Factor in this vehicle has only 2,489 miles and in like new original condition.  This very special truck has been a part of two large special collections for the past many years.  It  has always been well cared for and fully maintained.
