1987 Buick GNX

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1987 Buick GNX.

Most are aware of the renowned Buick Grand National. The GNX has been referred to as a “commemorative edition” and the “Grand National to end all Grand Nationals”.  1987 was the last year for the Grand National and the only year for the GNX. As a limited addition Buick only produced 547 GNXs. Buick sent all 547 as fully loaded Grand Nationals to ASC/McLaren with a long list of special modifications that would make them into GNXs. Although very different, the Grand National and the GXN look very similar. The easy to spot difference include the wheels, gauges, and fender flares. The GNX has a significantly improved turbocharger, intercooler, computer chip, exhaust, and transmission; along with a custom torque converter and transmission cooler. What puts all this together is the suspension. Traction and handling were greatly improved. The front suspension remains exactly the same; however, the rear axle is a totally different animal.

This 1987 Buick GNX is number 161 of 547. It was sold new to William Bacon of Brattleboro, Vermont from Gale Chevrolet-Buick in Winchendon, Maine. It has only 3,150 miles since new which makes this particular example in remarkable original condition. The factory LC2 3.8L V6 with SFI Intercooled Turbo produces the surprising horsepower that propels the GNX from 0-60 in just 4.8 seconds and net a quarter mile time of just 14.23 seconds. The original interior and original paint are like brand new. This GNX comes with plenty of original documentation including letters from ASC and Molly Designs, the dealership Customer Satisfaction Delivery Procedure, GM Protection Plan Agreement, Original Title, Buick Owner’s Guides, GNX Manual Supplement, Official Odometer Statement, and the framed Original ASC/McLaren Window Sticker.

This Grand National to end all Grand Nationals is an excellent example of an original GNX. With such low mileage and high documentation, this GNX is a rare and unique find. The interior and exterior condition of the car are wonderful, and the legend that these cars have become is apparent the second you take a seat in it.
