1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole - Recent Major Service, Receipts, Tools, Original Bill of Sale
LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole.
The Ferrari 308 is a V8 mid-engine 2-seater sports car manufactured from 1975 to 1985. The 308's body was designed by Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, who had been responsible for some of Ferrari's most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. This was the first Ferrari to benefit from the full-size tunnel right from the prototype stage and the design has stood the test of time.
The 308 had a tube frame with separate body. The engine was a V8 of a 90 degree configuration, with belt-driven twin overhead camshafts per cylinder bank. It was transversely mounted in unit with the transaxle transmission assembly. All models used a fully synchromesh 5-Speed Manual and a clutch-type limited slip differential. The great handling came from an all-independent suspension, four wheel vented disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. Along the way Ferrari made some significant improvements to the wonderful 308 such as the addition in 1980 of the Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection subsequently being renamed the 308 GTSi. The next model year Ferrari introduced 4-valves per cylinder for the 3 liter V8's and became known as 308 Quattrovalvole - meaning "four valves" in Italian and pronounced "KWA-tro-val-VOH-lay". This increased its power output to 240 hp and restored some of the performance lost to the extra weight that was imposed due to using all-metal rather than fiberglass and the emission control equipment of previous model years. Now the famous Ferrari performance and handling was back to where it was when it began production bringing it into contention with Porsche’s 944 and 928, the Chevrolet Corvette and Aston Martin’s Volante, to name a few of the 308’s rivals in the large and competitive North American market. Test performance for the 308 Quattrovalvole revealed impressive acceleration for the period with the quarter mile at 14.6 and 95 mph, 0-100 mph in 16.4 and top speed of 145 mph.
This 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole is stunning in the classic Rosso Corsa Red - the famous color one expects of a Ferrari. This ’84 308 has all the developments and improvements which makes these models the most desirable next to the original fiberglass 308’s. The Quattrovalvole is visually distinguished by the black front hood louvers to extract radiator heat, power operated side mirrors and the Satin Black Roof-mounted Aerofoil. Sitting under the rear engine cover with the stylish grills is the 3L V8 engine with fuel injection and 5-Speed Manual Gearbox. The 240 Ferrari Horses was plenty and today this Ferrari drives as well as one would expect with few miles of driving excitement having been registered. Road handling excitement is enhanced with the available Black Targa Top that can easily be removed by a single person. Inside the Tan Leather interior has the very appealing Black Piping on the sway back Bucket Seats. The interior is in great shape and leather throughout the cabin is very well-kept. The driver and passenger sit behind the beautiful condition original dash with the ’84-styled Black Three-Spoke Steering Wheel and have the optional factory Air Conditioning for their comfort. The exterior look is enhanced with the very desirable Speedline 16-inch alloy wheels with Bridgestone tires. Finally a very nice feature of the 1984 model was that Ferrari got with the times and started making the 308 with galvanized steel. This great low mile Ferrari has benefited from a major service by factory Ferrari dealer less than one year ago. It comes complete with tools, original bill of sale and many service receipts from over the years.
The beautiful 308 was a classic from the moment it was launched and was made famous on the TV series Magnum, P.I with Actor Tom Selleck wheeling the Ferrari around Hawaii. This classic Red Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole – sleek looks, impressive power and handling - is another reminder of the Prancing Horse Company’s rich heritage and would be a wonderful addition to any collection.
