1979 Pontiac Trans Am 2,213 Original Miles

Factory Y84 "Bandit" Edition with only 2,213 Original Miles

From the perspective of the muscle car enthusiast, the mid-late 1970's offered very little in the way of performance. The idea of solid lifters, large displacement big block motors of the 60's were a distant memory, with the exception of Pontiac who continued to fight the good fight with 6.6L Trans Am's. This image of high performance also got the attention of movie producers and one of the most recognizable movie cars was the result. The ever popular Smokey and the Bandit series of movies created a massive following for the Special Edition Trans Am's, a following that remains very strong to this day with a strong emphasis on originality and quality, something this particular car has in spades!

Sold new at Taylor Pontiac, this T/A has quite clearly lead a gentle existence since the day it rolled off the Norwood assembly line. A thorough evaluation of the car will quickly show that this is an exceptional original example. With a mere 2,213 original miles showing on the odometer, one can't help but think that the original owner missed out on a lot of enjoyment driving this car! But their loss is our gain today as this must be among the best, low mileage original Y84 Special Edition Bandit cars around. Making the car that much more desirable is the long list of options which were customer ordered on this car such as the L78 6.6L (400 cubic inch) engine with 4 speed transmission, electric rear window defroster, soft ray tinted glass, additional acoustical insulation, power antenna with AM/FM tri band radio, power windows, power door locks, custom trim group with velour bucket seats, tungsten quartz halogen lamps, special performance package including performance suspension and of course the Y84 option Special Edition package including the famous gold striping, gold cast aluminum wheels, T-tops and large hood decal. When looking at the car today though it is undoubtedly the quality that stands out, although there may be other low mileage examples out there, finding one which has clearly been so well maintained since day one would be challenging. The original factory applied Starlight Black paint shows beautifully, the velour interior doesn't appear to have ever been sat in, the engine bay and numbers matching L78 motor is detailed just as it came off the assembly line and a look at the undercarriage shows original factory markings throughout. Making this car a little more special is also the original documentation that it retains including the original two page window sticker and of course factory build sheets along with an original copy of the factory shipping waybill to the dealer and dealer order pages. Meticulously maintained, fully documented, low mileage and all original; this is exactly the type of collector grade car desired today!
