1973 Pontiac Trans Am 455SD

Full Documented,  Super Duty 4 Speed , 1 of only 72 Produced

By 1973 the Muscle Car era was quickly showing signs of coming to an end. But there was one final surprise waiting to come out from the performance enthusiasts at Pontiac. They had been working on a new performance engine and weren't going to let a fuel crisis or insurance costs stop them from dropping one final performance option on the industry. Introduced for 1973 and lasting only two model years would be the Super Duty 455 available on the Legendary Trans Am. For 1973 a mere 252 would be produced including 180 automatics and only 72 4 speed cars. Very under rated at 290hp, they were providing performance numbers that everyone was more accustomed to seeing in 1969 and 1970 even with government regulated smog equipment installed. What this motor could have done to the industry had it emerged a few years earlier will always be questioned, but one thing is certain, the Super Duty Trans Am will forever be a special and very sought after collector car.

Sold new at Cerami Pontiac, this Trans Am has been a very rare and special car since day one.  Finished in Cameo White with black interior, the car has always had a great look but going through the PHS documentation, it was also well optioned since day one including stereo radio, console and of course the WS4 Trans Am option, heavy duty battery and heavy duty radiator for the big Super Duty 455 and ultra rare 4 speed transmission. Although probably not realized at the time, that drivetrain combination would make this car one of only 72 SD455 4 speed cars ever produced for the entire model year. Today the car has benefited from a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, to better than new condition. Undercarriage has been finished in correct primer with fully detailed suspension front and rear, paint has been polished to a beautiful finish and the interior shows like new having been treated to an equal level of detail. During the restoration the owner at the time elected to save and preserve the original numbers matching, ZJ coded 455 SD 4 speed engine block as it is a valuable piece of the cars history and authenticity. Installed in the car is another 455 Super Duty engine, properly detailed and running strong.  Thus allowing the car to be driven and enjoyed without the worry of hurting the original motor.  The car is also completely documented including previously mentioned PHS documentation, owner history, listed in the SD Registry and more. Opportunities to acquire a real 1973, factory 4 speed Super Duty are few and far between, this car is one not to be overlooked by the astute collector wanting one of the last, ultra rare, highly coveted and most desirable muscle cars of all time.
