1972 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe - LS5 454, 4 Speed Transmission, Factory A/C

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1972 Corvette Stingray Coupe

After so much success with the C2 generation avid Chevrolet Corvette admirers had high expectations for the new Chevrolet Corvette (C3) sports car that would be produced for the 1968 through 1982 model years. Within the C3 third generation the 1969 through 1976 models would be the second generation of the Corvette Stingray now spelled as one word.  This Corvette legendary design was patterned after the famous experimental Mako Shark II that was designed by Larry Shinoda. The C3 design adopted the "sugar scoop" roof treatment with vertical back window from the mid-engine concept models designed by the Duntov group. It was intended from the beginning that the rear window and that portion of the roof above the seats be removable. Therefore the Coupes now had removable roof panels known as T-tops and had a removable rear window to access some of the Convertible feeling. The radical flowing design lines of the C3 generation Corvette was so successful that few changes were incorporated into each model year. This was again true for 1972, however, this model year represented the last year for the beautiful chrome bumpers at both front and rear, the vacuum actuated pop-up windshield wiper door, as well as the removable rear window common to all 1968-72 coupes. The key activated anti-theft alarm system became standard. By this model year the increasingly popular choice by consumers was the automatic transmission with nearly 54 percent so equipped. Another important point was the introduction of the SAE net measurement for horsepower rather than the previous SAE gross standard and this changeover was largely responsible for the much lower engine output figures. The LS5 454 cu in/7.4 L big block was again available and came in at 270 hp. Another trend of the day was Convertibles were becoming a vanishing breed by ‘72 and the Stingray was no exception. The Coupes were now more desirable with production totals of 20,496 Coupes representing about a 3 to 1 ratio.

This 1972 Corvette Coupe was an early production on the St Louis assembly line in October. Stunning in the Sunflower Yellow that makes this sleek Vette look period perfect. The Yellow Paint is in wonderful condition with great reflection and since there are no gaudy stripes or styling add-ons for these Corvettes the Yellow really does wonders to show off the great design lines. All the chrome and stainless shows very well. For many enthusiasts the early C3’s are the best of the models years with their chrome bumpers and hidden windshield wipers enhancing the styling. Under the vented big block hood is a very clean engine bay that has the mighty numbers matching “CSR” LS5 454 containing 270 horses that was a rare $294.90 option.  Power is transferred by the 4-Speed Manual Transmission to the BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s mounted on the Rallye Steel Wheels. Inside the Saddle interior contrasts perfectly with the bright Sunflower Yellow paint. The comfortable Bucket Seats are in very good condition and provide a great grand touring sports car feel. The optional Tilt Steering adds additional driver comfort. The removable roof panels will provide all the touring fun that a convertible can provide while the Factory Code 60 Air Conditioning is a great feature giving the driver yet another option to enjoy the driving experience. Inside the trunk space are the roof panel storage covers.

T-Top on or off…the temptation will be there for sure, to take this 1972 Sunfire Yellow T-Top Coupe out to show off its raw road pounding performance and sophisticated handling.
