1971 Cuda Convertible - Plymouth Public Relations Vehicle, Rotisserie Restoration, Fully Documented

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible.

With stiff competition from the Mustang and Camaro’s of the 1960’s, Chrysler was paying attention to the rapidly expanding youthful compact car market. Their intermediate Dodge Charger and Plymouth Road Runner models were reasonably successful, but the small Valiant-based Plymouth Barracuda, introduced before the Mustang in 1964, had never made a big splash. The engineers decided to both simplify the Barracuda for its third generation, to be introduced in 1969 as a 1970 model, and to equip it with everything it would need to guarantee success on the street and on the drag strip. The AAR was discontinued for 1971, but the other Cuda variants were carried over with a splash of fish-inspired style; the single headlamps, recessed horizontal grille and integrated signals lights were replaced by quad headlamps flanking a six-"gill" grille and under-bumper signal lights. The 71 Cuda’s also sported four simulated front fender vents, and separate-element tail lamps replaced the one-piece units. Redesigned side stripes included the famous "billboard" units with integrated engine callouts.

This 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible was built at the Hamtramck, Michigan Assembly Plant and had a scheduled production date of November, 3, 1970. Powered by its numbers matching 383/300HP engine and numbers matching 727 TorqueFlite Transmission, it was ordered specifically as a Plymouth Public Relations Vehicle and left the factory with the highly sought after  GY3 Hi Impact Curious Yellow exterior with White convertible top. Other desirable options that this Cuda left the factory with include; the Light Package, Performance Axle Package, Rallye Instrument Cluster, Power Brakes, Woodgrain Console, Front Bucket Seats, Heater and Air Conditioning, Power Convertible Top, Multiplex AM/FM Stereo, Dual Exhaust System and Chrome Exhaust Tips. Being a 383 Cuda Convertible, it is one of only 9 built with factory air conditioning. It had the benefit of having a full and complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration which has this Cuda now looking and driving better than it did when it left the factory. The Power Convertible Top operates flawlessly and the exterior, interior, engine bay, and undercarriage are all in pristine, excellent condition. The factory correct Hi Impact wet sanded and polished Curious Yellow paint with the 383 Billboards contrast perfectly and create a look that screams golden era Mopar. Accompanying this Cuda is a fully decoded and verified trim tag by Galen Govier, complete visual inspection report by Galen Govier, and two original Broadcast Sheets. It is also of course, listed in the Govier Registry.

The value of E-Body convertible Hemi cars have always had a high dollar attachment to them, but more recently, the non-Hemi E-body convertibles are being realized and increasing in dollar value. This 383 Cuda Convertible, being one of just 9 with factory Air Conditioning, is an investment in an extremely rare Mopar that was even used as a Plymouth Public Relations Vehicle. This Cuda’s documentation and verification by Govier make this car extremely rare and desirable for any Mopar enthusiast.
