The Ford Mustang was successfully introduced in April 1964 as a sporty "Pony car" to attract younger buyers into Ford products. As the performance war with GM and Mopar creations continued, the Mustang's platform and engine bay were progressively redesigned to accommodate larger engine blocks. In 1968 Ford introduced the 428 cu in Cobra Jet FE engine in a small group of Mustang GTs and into the Shelby GT500KR. However, "GT" wasn't a name that would initiate images of street screeching performance; hence the introduction of the Mach 1 title "suggestive of sound barrier speed". The Mach 1 package was only available in the 'Sportsroof' body style which was previously known as the 'Fastback'. The Mach 1 with the fierce Ram Air option had vacuum controlled 'flappers' at each scoop and a fiberglass under-hood 'plenum' that directed cool outside air into the carburetor. In addition, all Ram Air-equipped Mustangs came with twist-style chrome-plated hood lock pins and included a two-tone hood paint treatment in either black or argent/silver coordinated to the color of the Mach 1 decals and striping. The interior had high-back sport bucket seats. Optional items included the chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler, and rear window louvers. And finally, the biggest notoriety for the 1971 Mustang Mach 1 was being featured in the James Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever (1971).

It is very hard to find a Mach 1 in of this quality with ultra low mileage. The extreme level of originality can be seen thought out this car. Under close inspection one would notice the original paint with factory Ford finish, an interior that is in outstanding original condition, and undercarriage complete with the factory applied primer with body color overspray, including factory applied paint dabs, chalk markings and inspection markings. Even under the hood one will see the high level of originality, having never been restored and complete with original stickers, paint marking and factory stamps. This 1971 Mustang Mach 1 Sportsroof was built at Dearborn on May 20, 1971 for the New York Ordering District. The Mach 1 stands proud in the original Code M Wimbledon White factory paint with original Black Ruffino/Corinthian Vinyl Bucket Seats and interior. The menacing look is enhanced by the Black Hood and Black Rear Deck Spoiler. Powered by the numbers matching J-Code 429-4V CJ Engine Ram Air. The 429 is linked to the C-6 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic Transmission/Console and the 3.50 Traction-Lok Rear Axle. Complete with the optional Magnum 500 Chrome Wheels with bias ply raised white letter Firestone Wide Oval tires. Other features include Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, AM/FM Stereo, Tachometer Instrumentation Group, Dual Sport Mirrors, Power Windows and Tinted Glass/Rear Window Defrost. This original and very well preserved Mach 1 comes complete with a Marti Report confirming the factory build combinations.
