LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970 Ford Boss 429

The Boss 429, sometimes referred to as the "Boss 9" by blue oval enthusiasts, is arguably one of the rarest and most valued muscle cars from the era. In total there were 859 original ’69 Boss 429s then only 499 Boss 429’s for the 1970 model year. The origin of the Boss 429 was as a result of Ford’s desire to compete in NASCAR. Ford was seeking to develop an engine that could take on the Mopar Hemi powering the Charger Daytona and the Plymouth Superbirds. The Boss 429 engine featured aluminum cylinder heads, which had a modified Hemi type combustion chamber which Ford called "crescent". The Boss 429 engine used a single Holley four barrel carburetor rated at 735 CFM mounted on an aluminum intake manifold. All these cars had the Hurst Competition Shifter 4-Speed Manual Transmissions and the Boss was rated very conservatively at 375 HP while actual output was believed to be well over 500 horsepower. Mustangs' were simply too small to accept the massive Boss 429 engine so Ford hired Kar Kraft of Brighton, Michigan to modify existing 428 Cobra Jet and Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 Mustangs. Modifications included widening the shock towers and extending out the inner fenders. The mounts for the front suspension were chopped and displaced to create room for the block and exhaust manifolds. These very special cars were given NASCAR identification with a "KK" number that was placed on the driver's side door.

This Boss was built on November 4th, 1969, and delivered new to B & R Wilson Inc. in Smithfield, North Carolina. This car is exceptionally unique and extremely desirable, being one of only 13 to ever leave the factory painted in the desirable Calypso Coral with a White Knitted Vinyl bucket seat interior, and only 5 known to exist today. This has always been the hardest color combination for collectors to find and the most desirable combination amongst Boss 429 enthusiasts. Along with the incredible rarity, this example was treated to a true no-expense-spared rotisserie restoration completed by a marque specialist. The engine bay shows correctly and is fully detailed with all the production chalk marks, tags and decals. The numbers-matching Boss 429 engine is connected to its numbers-matching RUG 4-Speed Close Ratio Manual Transmission topped with the mandatory Hurst Competition Shifter. It also came factory equipped with a Code “V “3.91 ratio rear axle with a Traction-Lock limited slip differential.

The striking and rare factory Calypso Coral paint on the exterior is absolute perfection with excellent depth and beauty. It has been wet sanded and polished to the highest level.  These cars had just a very plain external identification with only the White Boss 429 decals on the front fenders behind the bright chrome Magnum 500 wheels mounted on Goodyear Polyglas tires. The interior features the ultra-rare and desirable factory-built White Knit Vinyl Hi-Back Bucket Seats. The rotisserie restoration extends throughout the entire car and certainly includes the undercarriage, as it reflects the high level of this extremely high-quality restoration and the extreme detail taken to have this Boss present correctly everywhere. Marti Report also confirms the other factory options which include: Drag Pack, Competition Suspension, Convenience Group, Electric Clock, F60X15 Tires, Collapsible Spare Tire, Rim Blow-Deluxe Steering Wheel, Console, Power Front Disc Brakes, Power Steering, AM Radio, Décor Group, Deluxe Belts, Tachometer, Functional Front Air Spoiler, and Trunk Mounted Battery.

With its fresh top-class restoration, extremely rare color combination, numbers-matching drivetrain, and full documentation, this ultimate Boss 429 is destined for the collector who only wants the best. Even sitting still, this Calypso Coral Boss looks like a serious weapon for either the street or strip. Don’t miss this opportunity to own one of the best Ford muscle cars ever produced. A true icon.
