1970 Dodge Challenger T/A

LMC is proud to offer for sale this ’70 Dodge Challenger T/A.

Challenger, Dodge's answer to the Mustang created “Pony Car” segment. Introduced for the 1970 model year, it was one of two Chrysler E-body cars, the other being the Plymouth Barracuda/Cuda. Dodge advertisements of the day announced the all-new high-performance pony car stating ‘This Pony has Horses…and…The Pony has a mean streak’…so Mopar was definitely out to tame the Mustang.

The 1970 Challenger was an eye-grabber with a deeply recessed grill set back behind the dual headlamps. The rear lights were contained in a full width unit, the center section which has large single reversing lamps with the name Dodge on it. In the ’70 lineup was a one-year-only model, the Dodge Challenger T/A (Trans Am), produced in order to race in the Sports Car Club of America's Trans American Sedan Championship. Dodge built a street version of its race car with the Code A53 Trans AM Package. T/A muscle and grunt was provided by a 340 with a trio of two-barrel carburetors atop an aluminum intake manifold to create the 340 Six Pack. Dodge rated the 340 Six Pack at 290 bhp but realistically there were about 320 horses for the street fun. Pistol Grip Hurst-shifting four-speed transmission provides the ultimate feel of power for the driver. The 340 engine breathes cold air through a pinned down ready-for-the-track Matte-Black Hood with a suitcase-sized air grabbing scoop. The limited-edition T/A came with larger G60 tires on the back wheels and E60s on the front making it one of the first production vehicles to offer different size tires. The low-restriction dual exhaust ran to the stock muffler location, then reversed direction to exit in chrome tipped "megaphone" outlets in front of the rear wheels creating a real straight-from-the-track look. Front disc brakes were standard. Thick dual side stripes, bold graphics, chrome flip open race style "Fuel" cap, a fiberglass ducktail rear spoiler and a fiberglass front spoiler were also included. The interior was identical to other Challengers. Finally a dose of rarity because only 2,400 T/A’s went down the production line.

This Dodge Challenger T/A is certainly a rare version being 1 of 989 built with the Pistol Grip 4-Speed Transmission. This Challenger came from the Hamtramck Michigan Plant in April 1970 and looks awesome in White with the bold Black Racing Stripes. All the styling and performance features within the correct Code A53 and ‘Trans Am’ stamping on the fender tags provides this muscle car with such a great visual assault look for the street. The heart of this beast is the Code E55 340/6pk TA engine with the infamous Pistol Grip 4-Speed and the Code N44 Dual Side Exhaust. Business end of the muscle is delivered by raised white lettered radial tires mounted on the optional Slotted Rallye Wheels with the polished trim ring and silver center cap. Inside is the basic no nonsense High-Back Black Bucket Seat interior of Challenger R/T comfort. Other features include Dual Racing Mirrors, AM Radio, Hood Scoop/Hood Pins, contoured Black Rear Deck Spoiler and Racing Fuel Cap. The original plastic folder containing the original Operator's Manual, Warranty Book and AirTemp Booklet will be provided to the next owner. The passage of time has made these TA’s legendary especially with low total production and as expected low survivability over the years
