1969 Pontiac Trans Am - Fully Restored Documented 4 Speed
LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.
The first generation Firebirds had a characteristic Coke bottle styling. The 1969 model received a major facelift with only the hood/roof/decklid retained from '68. The new front end design had the bumpers integrated into the body design. These bumpers were similar in look to big brother GTO although they did not have the Endura bumper. This front end look having the trademark Pontiac split grill was unlike its cousin the Chevrolet Camaro and provided a sleek/unique style within this market segment. At the backend the Firebird's had rear "slit" taillights inspired by the Pontiac GTO. The instrument panel and steering wheel were revised. The ignition switch was moved from the dashboard to the steering column with the introduction of GM's new locking ignition switch/steering wheel. In 1969, for approximately $1100 there was an optional handling package called the "Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package" named after the Trans Am Series. Although the car never actually competed in the Trans Am Racing this series was so popular in the day that it provided an instant marketing brand. This was Pontiac's offering similar to the stable mate Camaro Z28. Pontiac's, keeping in mind the higher status of Pontiac within the GM hierarchy, had bigger performance engines that Camaro. There was an additional Ram Air IV option for the 400 CID engine during that year, complementing the Ram Air III; these generated 345 and 335 hp respectively. The 350 "H.O." engine was revised again with a different cam and cylinder heads resulting in 330 hp. The Trans Am had an optional rally cluster that added a 160-mph speedometer and an 8,000 rpm Tach. The Trans Am also featured a special hood with full length, functional hood scoops and functional air outlets behind the front wheels. The back end had a 60" rear spoiler unlike the regular Firebirds. Both a two-door hardtop and a convertible were offered through the 1969 model year. Of these first Trans Ams only 689 hardtops and eight convertibles were made.
This fully restored 69 Trans Am is a numbers matching WQ code 400 Cu. In. HO Ram Air III engine with 335 horsepower. Back by a 4 speed transmission and outfitted with factory Rally II wheels, power steering, power disc brakes, simulated wood steering wheel, AM radio, chrome driver remote mirror, factory tach and the desirable factory in dash stacked gauges.
A fully documented Trans Am with a copy of the Car Order Form, Pontiac Historical Service papers, correct trim tag having the 50-50 paint code and the D80 spoiler code (Trans Am only) confirming this car to be a true Trans Am. It has benefited from an extensive restoration of the entire car with photos of the car apart and the restoration receipts.
Rare, collectible, desirable and the first year of the Trans Am.
