As the Ford Executives enjoyed the tremendous success of the Shelby Mustang they were still focused on growing the Mustang brand with their own unique/special muscle car. So with the introduction of the Cobra Jet 428 in 1968 Ford knew they definitely had a genuine muscle car engine for their own Mustang stable. In 1969 Ford introduced the new Cobra Jet Big Block in their Mach 1 as they began to draw from the Shelby success with the expansion of the Mustang specialty muscle car line up. Base engines started with the other new Ford engine the small block 351, next was the venerable 390 engine and then the top of the lineup was the 428CJ now with Ram Air in the form of a Shaker Hood to eat up the fresh air. The Mach 1 was offered with special striping, a blacked out hood and the new for ’69 aggressive styling that was now wider and longer. Mach 1 was backed by the performance packages that could take on the traffic light challengers on the streets.

Unfortunately, this collector Mach 1 has sustained some damage due to a small fire localized to the engine bay. Fortunately, many items emerged intact and unscathed such as the painted fenders, firewall, inner fenders, front tires, wheels, windshield and front grill. The engine internals were not damaged. The top external parts of the engine need to be restored and detailed. The hood has been replaced and only needs to be blacked out. In fact, no damage is perceptible with the hood closed.

The Marti Report verified this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 rolled off the Metuchen assembly line on January 9, 1969. The Mach 1 was then shipped to the High Performance Ford Dealer of Norris Ford in Baltimore MD. The engine is a 428-4V Cobra Jet Ram Air connected to the Four-Speed Close Ratio Manual Transmission and the optional 3.50 Traction–Lok Axle. The excellent quality of the restoration a few years back is evident throughout this Mach 1. Finished in the captivating C5 Code Black Jade the paint shows very well having been  wet sanded and polished to show quality with no areas of orange peel. All chrome and stainless surfaces are in great condition. The exterior lines are enhanced with the Gold Mach 1 racing stripes along the side and is equipped with Black Front Spoiler, rear window Black Louver Sport Slats, Black Rear Deck Spoiler and chrome Magnum wheels. The interior has the 3W Code White Clarion Knit Vinyl Hi-Back Bucket Seats and is in very good restored condition receiving new seat covers, carpets, dashpad and headliner. The driver has conveniences like the Rim Blow/Power Steering Wheel, Power Brakes, Driver Remote/Dual Body-Colored Racing Mirrors, Day/Night Rear View Mirror, Tach, Clock, Fold-down Rear Seat and original AM/FM Radio. A good inspection of this Mach 1 will show that it has been restored to show class condition. The body is rust free, straight, free of damage, has very good fit and the doors and trunk having a factory solid closing. Even the undercarriage shows off the fabulous restoration work that has been completed with proper primer and production line paint and marking details. This Mach 1 is in excellent mechanical condition as the previous maintenance minded owner has included many receipts that will be passed along with the Marti Report to the new owner.

This Black Jade 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is ready for a Blue Oval Ford Mustang fanatic to return this magnificent Mach 1 to the streets or to the local Mustang show. A good examination of the website pictures or a personal look in the showroom and one can easily determine this highly collectable Mach 1 has so much potential!
