1969 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster-Numbers Matching 427/435HP, Fully Documented, California Car

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this ’69 Corvette Stingray Convertible.

After so much success with the C2 generation avid Chevrolet Corvette admirers had high expectations for the new Chevrolet Corvette (C3) sports car that would be produced for the 1968 through 1982 model years. Within the C3 third generation the 1969 through 1976 models was the second generation of the Corvette Stingray with the name now spelled as one word.  This Corvette legendary design was patterned after the famous experimental Mako Shark II that was designed by Larry Shinoda. The C3 design adopted the "sugar scoop" roof treatment with vertical back window from the mid-engine concept models designed by the Duntov group. The Coupes now had removable roof panels known as T-tops and had a removable rear window. A soft folding top was included with Convertibles, while an auxiliary hardtop with a glass rear window was offered at additional cost. The classic Corvette design of concealed headlights continued with the new flowing design lines but were now moved by a vacuum operated system rather than electrically as did the new hide-away windshield wipers lid. Exterior door handles were flush with the top of the doors so the chrome finger plate would actuate the door eliminating the separate release button. Front fenders had functional engine cooling vents. Side vent windows were eliminated from all models with the new "Astro Ventilation" fresh air circulation system. Inside the new dash had a large round speedometer and matching tachometer positioned in front of the driver while the auxiliary gauges were clustered above the forward end of the console. The chassis was carried over from the second generation models retaining the fully independent suspension and the four-wheel disc brake system. The engine line-up and horsepower ratings were also carried over from the previous year. Another design feature had small block cars having low-profile hoods while the big block cars had domed hoods for additional engine clearance with twin simulated vents and “427” call out emblems. Car and Driver magazine wrote, “The large-engine Corvettes are extraordinarily fast and marginally civilized.”

This 1969 Corvette Convertible was produced in the mid-model run at the St. Louis Plant. It was delivered new to California and sold at Lamb Chevrolet on 7/29 1969.  Ordered as a basic no frills power hungry Vette right from the assembly line so this Corvette was built for road handling fun. Absolutely a striking look in the popular combination of Code 983 Fathom Green with ZQ4 Code Black interior and Black Convertible Top. Green paint is in very good condition with high reflective qualities enhancing the long, low and mean look. All the stainless and chrome also has great depth. This Corvette portrays just what the Chevrolet advertisements proudly stated that “With this one beautiful exception, there is no such thing as a true American Sports Car’. Under the hood is the numbers matching “LT” code L71 427 Turbo Jet engine with factory Holley triple 2-barrel carb set up or better known as the 3 X 2 Tri-Power.  Making this car even more rare is the MA6 Heavy Duty clutch option linked to the 4 speed manual transmission, of which only 102 were ever produced. This 1969 Corvette Convertible has a Black Bucket seat interior that is in very good condition. If you don’t want to listen to the roar of the horses then AM/FM Radio is there for your convenience. The original gauges are remarkably clear and bright and you can’t argue with how well the interior works from a driver’s standpoint with everything within easy reach – even has a 427 and 435HP plaque on the full Console. The Firestone Wide Ovals are mounted with the  very unique optional Corvette Deluxe wheel disc covers.

Mr. Joseph Bryan Phelps bought his new corvette from Lamb Chevrolet in 1969 and would be its caretaker until 1990.  There is even a notarized letter from him attesting to the car, its low milage and originality.  Other documents that are included with the sale: original bill of sale, owner protection plan with protecto plate, owners manual with sleeve, salesman's business card, original owners finance paperwork, decades of service transactions, numerous California registrations, original dealer receipts for first payments, lamb Chevrolet original temporary tag, copies of old titles, and much more.

This 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible is just basic power with the impressive 427-435 horses under the hood, great design lines with good looks of the Side-Mounted Exhaust Pipes and the Black Top going down for more fun on the road.  It is very hard to find a fully documented California delivered 435hp Roadster in such great original condition such as this one.
