1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR

Complete Rotisserie Restored  & Document "King of the Road"

When Ford introduced the Cobra Jet 428 part way through the 1968 model year, that also meant an upgrade to the Shelby GT500 drivetrain as well. In order to distinguish one from another, it the letters KR were added to the name signifying "King of the Road". The added power made theShelby's of course that much quicker and they had already been working towards being well options grand touring muscle cars with power steering, power brakes and all the interior options one would desire.

This beautifully rotisserie restored 1968 Shelby GT500 KR rolled off the Metuchen assemble plant June 20, 1968 and was then shipped to Oliver Ford to be sold to its first proprietor. Nicely optioned, as most Shelby's of the time were, the car features power steering, power disc brakes and of course the tilt away steering wheel. The car has recently benefited from a high quality complete nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration and having only seen test mileage since remains in exquisite condition throughout. The attention to detail and overall fit and finish of the car speak volumes for the quality of the restoration. The notoriously difficult Shelby fiberglass body panels line up with precision, the undercarriage is perfectly detailed including red-oxide primer with body colour overspray, proper replicated paint daubs, driveshaft stripes and chalk markings giving this a show worthy amount of detail. Open the hood and you'll find a well detailed, fully dated 428 Cobra Jet engine which even has date code correct smog equipment installed attached to a 4 speed Top Loader transmission. Of course the car is fully documented to ensure authenticity; it has a Deluxe Marti Report, listed in the Shelby Registry and even retains the original factory build sheet. A beautiful car for the collector or enthusiast searching for fully restored example of the first Cobra Jet Shelbys.
