1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible

Multiple National Award Winning 4 Speed Convertible

There are many different ways enthusiasts and collectors chose to enjoy collector cars, some enjoy driving then, some even still race them while there is another group who enjoy making the cars as original as possible and then judged. Many groups and clubs have formed over the years centered on this hobby. Among the most commonly known is the AACA, but there are also clubs for specific models such as the NCRS for Corvettes, MCA for Mustangs and more specifically SAAC for the Shelby's! A top award from these groups can be extremely challenging to achieve, but once it does it provided incredible provenance and pedigree will remain with that car forever!

Rolling off the Metuchen assembly plant on February 29, 1968 was this Acapulco Blue GT500 convertible with a white soft top, black interior and a 4 speed attached to its 428 engine. We equipped, as most Shelby's were, this car came factory equipped with power disc brakes, power steering, shoulder harnesses and tilt away steering wheel. After several decades the car was deemed worth of a complete, concourse style rotisserie restoration, a restoration that would ultimately take 7 years to complete. The car was then sold to a fortunate owner who recognized the exceptional quality of the car and began to show the car and have it judged. Over the next few years the car accumulated an impressive list of accolades including AACA Junior, Senior and Grand National awards, multiple MCA Concourse Gold awards and even participated in select SAAC events. Since finishing its time on the show circuit the car has been retained as part of a collection, seeing light duties on the street again and being enjoyed for what Shelby Convertibles were truly meant to do. The car retains a complete binder documenting not just its originality with some original Shelby invoices and of course a Deluxe Marti report, but also all of its accomplishments including past judging sheets, restoration photos and even pictures of the car being driving to what appears to be the son of the original owner taking the car to high school prom in 1970! 1968 was the first year a Shelby was offered in convertible body style, in total only 402 GT500 convertibles would be produced with a small fraction of those being 4 speeds. Today this multiple show winner represents a special opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored, very rare 4 speed convertible to be shown, driven or enjoyed, all while retaining the provenance and pedigree of being a National Show Winner!
