1967 Shelby GT500 - Beautiful Rotisserie Restoration, Factory 4 Speed, Fully Documented

LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1967 Shelby GT500

Although the Shelby GT350, introduced in 1965, had helped boost the Mustang’s reputation as a serious performance car, Carroll Shelby realized that the hard-edged and high-strung GT350 was not what everyone wanted. He saw an opening in the market for a relaxed, big-engine Grand Touring car, and with the launch of the newly restyled Mustang for 1967, he saw his opportunity. His new model, dubbed the GT500, was fitted with the “Police Interceptor” engine, a 428 cubic inch, 2x4 bbl carbureted version of the medium block FE engine. It had a smaller bore and a longer stroke than the similar 427 cubic inch racing engines found in the GT40s that had won Le Mans in 1966 and would again in 1967. This made it quieter, more reliable, more tractable, and, most importantly, cheaper to manufacture than the 427 engines. Also, in order to differentiate it from standard Mustangs, the GT500 was equipped with two central-mounted fog lamps, 1967 Mercury Cougar tail lamps, plenty of functional scoops, and a classy stripe package. Shelby himself called it the “first car (he) was ever really proud of.” 2,048 were produced in 1967.

This beautiful 1967 Shelby GT500 was built by Shelby American on May 19th, 1967 and sold new at Jack Gibbons City Ford in Watchung, New Jersey. The original owner ordered his new GT500 in the highly desirable Lime Gold with White stripes complemented by a Black décor interior. As per the Marti report it was ordered with the following options: Deluxe wheels, shoulder harness, extra cooling package, courtesy light group, sport deck rear seat, power disc brakes, power steering, interior décor group, heavy duty battery, tachometer and trip odometer.

Under previous ownership a rotisserie restoration was commissioned to bring it back to its original glory. This Shelby was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its original shade of Lime Gold with White stripes. Inside the cabin, the seats, carpets, dash, headliner, and inner doors are all stunning in black and are in outstanding condition. Given the car’s intent as a Grand Tourer, the interior is also quite comfortable. Under the hood lies the 428ci Police Interceptor engine and four speed transmission. Finishing the look of the engine is a litany of correct markings and stickers as it left the assembly line. Underneath is finished as it left the factory with red oxide primer floor pans with body color overspray, black pinch welds, correct paint daubs and inspection markings.

Included in the sale are Marti report, Shelby invoices, SAAC registry report and more. This 67 Shelby GT500 is an outstanding example being factory painted in Lime Gold, four-speed, exceptional restoration, and great provenance! This 67 Shelby GT500 would make a stellar addition to any collection of American muscle.
