4-4-2, 400 CID, 4 Speed, 2 Exhaust

The '4-4-2' name first appeared in 1964 as an option on the F-85 and Cutlass models. It was technically the 'B09 Police Apprehender' option which included the four-barrel carbureted 330 cubic-inch V8 with dual exhaust and 310 horsepower. The suspension, shocks, clutch, transmission, driveshaft, brakes, and wheels were beefed up as well. The name '4-4-2' evolved from the combination of options: four-barrel carburetor, four-speed transmission, and dual, meaning two, exhausts. It was offered in retaliation of the Pontiac Tempest GTO which was a runaway hits for Pontiac and Oldsmobile wanted some the new found sales.

This example has been beautifully kept and maintained since new. Powered by the 400 CID V8 rated at 350HP and huge 440 FT LBS of torque mated to a 4 speed manual transmission with a Hurst floor shifter this car is reported to still be finished in its original factory applied Bimini Blue paint with black bucket interior. This great package had something rarely seen on full sized performance cars of the day, front and rear anti sway bars that greatly improved its handling. To take advantage of this engine's high torque output, it was ordered with SJ code 3.55 limited slip rear differential, dual chambered exhaust as well as power steering and power brakes to help keep it all under control. This combination rides on the Olds trade mark Super Stock 1 chrome wheels wrapped in redline tires giving it that correct muscle car look. Showing only 15,481 miles, which are reported to be original, this 4-4-2 drives and feels like a great original car, one that hasn't required the dismantling and repair associated with other cars of its vintage. Showing minor signs of patina, they are just indications of the gentle life the car has lead up to this point. Recently acquired from a collector with an eye for originality, it represents a great opportunity if you're looking for a great driving full sized performance car from the 60's to use or to show.
