Rare Numbers Matching L78 396/375hp
With the Ford Mustang coming out in 1964, Chevrolet scrambled to come out with something to compete with. What they came out with certainly did just that, with great styling and a very wide range of available engines from mild 6 cylinders to will solid lifter 396's, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro soon had Ford scrambling to catch up with their new found competition and the "Pony Wars" began, a battle which continues to this day!
The story of this rare 1967 Camaro begins at Taylor Chevrolet on May 22, 1967 when a Mr. Toedte placed an order for a new car. By the time the car was finally delivered it was July 22, making for what was undoubtedly a fun summer given the impressive car he just picked up. Factory finished just as you see it today in Tahoe Turquoise with black interior, what really made this Camaro stand out from the rest was the factory Rally Sport package giving it, among other features the famous hideaway headlights. In addition to the desirable RS package, it is also equipped with the factory SS package, bucket seats with console and rare console gauges, factory tach and more. But the most important option becomes quickly apparent when you turn the key, the unmistakable noise of a solid lifter big block engine comes to life as this car has the top of the line, numbers matching L78 396/375hp engine and close ratio Muncie M21 transmission with 4.11 ratio positraction axle. Of course with any great collector car today, it's only as good as you can prove it is, thankfully this special Camaro retains lots of original documentation including the valuable Protect-O-Plate, original purchase invoice, owners manual and even the carefully removed original stickers from springs and other components. In the 46 years since this car was delivered new, it is reported to have seen just under 21,000 miles of use from only four separate owners, with this in mind the car remains in exceptional condition. It has been reported that in 1967, only 1,138 people selected the solid lifter L78 engine, making this a very rare car, given the documentation and history of this car, it truly is a special example. Collector owned and maintained, this car is now ready for the next step in its life, perfect as part of a collection or to be driven and enjoyed.
