1966 Pontiac GTO
Fully Documented, 389 Tri Power and National Award Winner Well it was finally official, GTO had become its own model for Pontiac in 1966 and sales of the new GTO Model skyrocketed. The new GTO saw many different features including Grill placed parking lamps, GTO nameplates, standard single centered hood scoop, V-shaped front wheel opening badges and a special 389 cubic inch four barrel V8 with Dual Exhaust and high performance shock absorbers and front stabilizer bars.
This 1966 Pontiac GTO is presented in an eye catching Marine Turquoise exterior, with the white "Parchment" interior. The styling of the GTO is a very sleek, and this colour scheme serves to accentuate this GTO's great looks. The interior of the GTO features the classic three spoke steering wheel and "cue ball" style shifter. The vehicle is optioned with the push button radio, console and electric clock, which are nice additions to the beautiful wood dash. Under the hood is the factory ordered WS code Tri-power 389 cubic inch V8 mated to the desirable 4 speed manual wide ratio transmission. Pontiac rated the Tri-power V8 at 360 horsepower, which it put to the wheels through the 3.55 ratio rear axle.
Considerable documentation comes with the vehicle including original build sheet and of course fully documented by the Pontiac Historical Society. The vehicle was assembled in Pontiac, Michigan and sold new from Burnett Pontiac in Norwood, Ohio. The vehicle has completed an extensive and thorough frame off nut and bolt rotisserie restoration to the highest standards. This beautiful example had earned both the National First Prize and Grand National First Prize designations by the Antique Automobile Club of America.
This 1966 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe would be a great addition to any serious Pontiac collection. The combination of Tri-Power carburetion, a four-speed transmission, beautiful color combination, full documentation coupled with the outstanding condition makes this a very desirable GTO indeed.
