How did the car come to be named a GT 350?  Most automotive historians claim that the inspiration came from a discussion at Shelby American while trying to come up with a name.  Carroll Shelby is said to have inquired how many feet it was from the office to the workshop buildings.  After measuring a distance of 350 feet, the car was called a Shelby Mustang GT350.  Some enthusiasts debate that the name 350 was used because 350 was 100 larger than any GT Ferrari offered.  What can not be debated is the impressive engineering by Shelby American to take a stock Mustang GT and produce a real American racing machine.
