1966 Chevrolet Nova

Ultra Rare L79 327/350hp

The popular Chevrolet Nova was introduced as the Chevy II in 1961 as a 1962 model. In 1966, hot on the heels of the newly restyles Chevelle also came a restyled Chevy II Nova. The new Nova Super Sport was available with the economical six cylinder, or myriad mouse-motor derivatives, but clearly the hot ticket was the L79 version, a 327 cubic-inch 8-cylinder engine producing an astonishing 350 horsepower. Chrome engine accents, enlarged valves, and aluminum intake, four-barrel Holley carburetor. This engine has high-compression pistons and performance camshaft that meant quarter mile times of just 15.1 seconds in stock form. With minor modifications, the sub-3000 pound vehicle could easily enter into the sub 13 second range.

This nicely restored example is finished in Madeira Maroon red with matching red interior. Clearly this car was ordered with one objective in mind, to go fast. The center piece of this car is without question the numbers matching L79 327/350hp with 3 speed manual, dual exhaust and a 12 bolt rear differential. From there the power goes to steel wheels with hubcaps with redline tires for the ultimate sleeper look. This car definitely surprised a few people at the lights back in the day!!! This car has since been tastefully restored with beautiful base/clear paint and very clean interior. The L79 engine is nicely detailed including chrome valve covers and appropriate air breather. It now remains a car that wants to be driven and enjoyed, hoping for another opportunity to surprise the next person in a big block muscle car.
