  Even after Chevrolet reimagined the Corvette as a muscular big-block-powered brute in 1965, buyers still favored the 327 CI small-block V-8 in its various states of tune, accounting for almost 91 percent of sales. The Corvette had gained well-designed all-wheel disc brakes that were a giant leap forward over the former drum brakes, which Zora Arkus-Duntov rightly believed had been developed to their fullest potential. Exterior changes by this point in the Corvette’s evolution were mostly predictable. The front grille insert was replaced with a plated, square mesh piece; a new vertical chromed Corvette script was added to the leading edge of the hood, and new lower sill trim panels featured extra ribbing. Backup lights became standard equipment and were integrated into the inner two taillights. 

  This stunning Sunfire Yellow 1966 Chevrolet Coupe offered here for sale was built in late September of 1965 and sold new at White Chevrolet in Galax, Virginia. Originally powered by the stout L79 327ci/350hp mated to a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and it features Soft Ray-tinted glass, a teakwood steering wheel on a telescopic column and an AM/FM radio with power antenna. 

  Originally restored to concours standards, this example has won a plethora of prestigious awards in the Corvette world. Few Corvettes of any caliber have qualified for this car’s array of judged awards a single time each; qualifying for several of them on multiple occasions is almost unheard of. These accolades include Bloomington Gold Certification, Three NCRS National Top Flight awards, Three NCRS Regional Top Flight awards, Two NCRS Chapter Top Flight awards, Two NCRS Performance Verification awards and Two Duntov Mark Of Excellence Winner. 

  This Corvette would recently change hands to a new owner looking for an exceptional car to start his ultimate restomod C2 Corvette build. Since this Corvette has been so nicely restored previously, it meant they wouldn’t have to worry about any of the cosmetics and only upgrade mechanical components to increase the drivability and performance. The build started with a brand new Blue Print 383ci engine with Holley Sniper fuel injection producing 436hp and 443 ft.-lbs of torque replacing the L79. This stout new power plant is backed by a Tremec TKO 5-speed manual transmission that has increased torque capacity and better gear ratios for cruising. 

  To match the added horsepower, a Ridetech StreetGRIP suspension kit was installed to provide modern handling and ride quality while lowering the car for great stance. The complete kit includes: Composite leaf spring, dual-rate coil springs, Delrin control arm bushings, large diameter front sway bar and Ridetech HQ series shocks that have adjustable rebound to help you fine tune ride and handling. Braking duties are handled by power assisted Wilwood four piston calipers at all four corners. 

  The interior remains largely original with the addition of Dakota Digital gauges, Vintage Air heat/air conditioning and a Bluetooth radio.
