The GTO popularity had been growing and Pontiac immediately started to add unique identifiers to GTO equipped cars. Front grills, rear fender sides and trunk were now marked with bold GTO letters. In addition to more noticeable markings the hood of the GTO equipped cars featured a very distinctive hood scoop, a feature that would follow GTO throughout its production years. Horsepower increased with a little help from 421 style cylinder heads with improved breathing. A new LeMans GTO could be ordered with an optional 389, 360 Horsepower engine. Standard engine was 389 cubic inch rated at 335 horsepower. Additionally one could order a tri-power equipped 389 cubic inch motor that featured 3 - 2-barrel carbs. This feature by now had become legendary in the performance car world. Hurst industry was and still is one of the key aftermarket suppliers of performance parts and partnered with Pontiac to help promote the brand.

Sold new @ the famous Knafel Pontiac in Akron Ohio , home of the "Tin Indians" this beautifully restored documented GTO convertible is equipped with the desirable 389 engine, 4 speed Muncie transmission and has benefited from a full frame off, nut and bolt restoration. While this work was being completed the owner opted to utilize a rust free southern shell and also elected to upgrade a few options to make it just as he would have ordered it new. The quality and workmanship is of the highest level and no expense was spared. Finished in flawless, fully wet sanded and polished Tiger Gold paint with black interior and black convertible top, the car shows beautifully. The look is further enhanced by the Hurst wheels, Hurst shifter and badging. The 389 was also upgraded from a single four barrel to the Tri Power 3x2 carburetion system back by a 4 speed transmission and F code Saf-T-Track rear differential. This beautiful GTO comes with the original dealer invoice, owner's manuals, Protect-o-plate, original 1965 California title, and of course full PHS documentation. This incredible car also comes with a long list of invoices showing the extent of the work completed during the full restoration.
