The 1965 Pontiac Beaumont L79 is a rare and highly sought-after muscle car built exclusively for the Canadian market based on the A- body Chevelle platform but featured distinctive Pontiac-influenced design cues. Inside, the cabin was well-appointed with bucket seats, a center console, and an optional tachometer, reinforcing its muscle car pedigree. A
Under the hood, the L79 option packed a high-performance 327 cubic-inch V8 rated at 350 horsepower, making it one of the most potent small-block engines of the era. With a high-lift camshaft, upgraded internals, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor, the L79 delivered exhilarating acceleration and impressive top-end power.Paired with either a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, the Beaumont L79 provided an engaging driving experience.
As per the GM of Canada documentation, only 23 coupe examples were produced with the coveted high horsepower L79 engine and only six surviving examples are known to exist. This particular car was built on March 26th,1965 and sold at Tofield Service Garage, in Tofield, Alberta. Ordered new in the attractive code R Regal Red paint complemented by a code 985 Black trim interior. Other options include M20 four speed transmission, upper dash pad cover, electric wipers, F40 heavy duty suspension, engine block heater, white wall tires, heavy duty battery, reverse lamps, tachometer, and Am pushbutton radio.
A car of this rarity deserved a complete, frame off restoration with no expense spared. The car was stripped to bare metal and refinished to a show quality standard. The restoration brought challenges finding virtually unobtainable trim components which took literally years to track down like the authentic rocker moldings and wheel covers, which look like Pontiac caps, but without "Pontiac Motor Division" written around the edges of the center caps.
With its limited production numbers and exclusive Canadian heritage, the 1965 Pontiac Beaumont L79 is a prized collector’s car today, celebrated for its blend of Pontiac styling and Chevrolet muscle.
