1965 Corvette Stingray L84 Fuelie

Legendary Motorcar is proud to offer for sale this gorgeous C2 Stingray Fuelie coupe. This Stingray's sharp lines are perfectly complimented by its very appropriately named "Tuxedo Black" paint scheme. You would have to be wearing a tuxedo to have a hope of matching the stylistic presence this Stingray coupe brings wherever and whenever it's driven. 1965 was a big year for the Corvette as it was the only year you could acquire a fuel Injection equipped 327 that was factory rated at 375hp. 1965 also saw the introduction of 4 wheel disc brakes as standard equipment. The standard four wheel independent suspension gives this car a certain level of sophistication and comfort not found in the previous generation Corvette. Due to the high cost of the L84 "Fuelie" in comparison to the availability of the 396 Big Block, this would be the final year of production for the famous L84 option. A shame, because the much lighter weight L84 375hp engine was actually more faithful to Duntovs's original vision for what a Corvette should be and how it should handle. Only 771 "Fuelie" Corvettes were produced that year, making it the lowest production year for the Fuelie. Compared to 2,157 big block 396 Corvettes produced in 1965, this Fuelie is certainly rare and makes it extremely collectible.

Below the hood we find a very detailed engine bay containing the very desirable L84 Fuel injected 327/375hp engine. It's unquestionably the engine it left the factory with. The L84 is numbers matching and decodes correctly from the engine stamp pad. Having a correct engine suffix code of "HG", meaning: 327/375hp high lift/ FI/ 4 speed . It also has the correct engine casting number, 3782870 which is proper for this Corvette. This is the type of engine bay you will be proud to lift the hood and show off. Moving to the underside, a nicely detailed chassis reveals a condition one would expect with a body off restoration. The chassis and suspension show the work put in during restoration, still being very fresh with a little bit of wear from being lightly exercised. The correct bias-ply Gold line tires will get noticed by the passerby and C2 Stingray enthusiasts alike. Being a great driving machine as well as a great collectible, the combination of the lighter 327 Fuelie , 4 wheel discs and 4 wheel independent suspension deliver nice predictable handling and drivability. Its mechanical condition is a match for the wonderful paint, body and interior and will provide many pleasurable miles if this collectible is chosen to be driven as well as admired.

Having been body off restored and with such a flattering colour applied; this Stingray's paintwork grabs one's attention. Although not the original colour, the Tuxedo Black paint really suits the chiseled lines of this Stingray coupe. The paint looks stunning and the workmanship is wonderful, even on a close up side view. Great efforts were made on the paint and many hours spent wet sanding and polishing with even the door jambs and sills showing as nicely as the outside. Brightwork is shiny and reflects the tidy overall condition of the car. The chrome bumpers providing a nice deep reflection while providing that classic style we all love. Body gaps and door fit is right there with all great Stingray Corvettes and just what you would hope for. Step inside and you are confronted by an interior that is quite possibly better than the day it left the factory. The black paint ends up being wonderfully contrasted by an eye catching white vinyl interior, effectively a two tone affair as it retains black carpets and dash. The beautiful white seats look and feel new. The chrome is fresh as all of the levers and controls were replated in the exacting restoration. The gauges are clear and bright, the switches work and look excellent. The factory smooth dark simulated wood steering wheel feels great to the touch and looks as new. The fresh plating of the shifter makes it as much a pleasure to look upon as it is to operate. Clean and tidy door panels as well as a smooth and perfectly shaped dash pad round out what is a wonderfully restored and very tight interior.

Fantastic Stingray Fuelies are not only rare but extremely difficult to find with their original engine. This, coupled with a great restoration, makes this car a wonderful investment that you can have fun driving and enjoying.
