1965 was a year of change and upgrades for the pre-eminent American sports car. This was the only year the Corvette had a fuel injected 327 with a factory rating of 375HP. This was also the year that brought in the much welcomed 4 wheel disc brakes as standard equipment. The standard four wheel independent suspension gave the car a certain level of sophistication and comfort not found in the previous C1 generation Corvette. Due to the high cost of the L84 "Fuelie" option in comparison to the availability of the 396 Big Block, this would be the final year of production for the famous RPO L84. A shame, because the lighter weight of the L84 375HP engine was actual a more faithful interpretation of Duntov's original vision of what a Corvette should feel like and how it should handle. Only 771 "Fuelie" Corvettes were produced that year, making it the lowest production year for the Fuelie. Compared to 2,157 big block 396 Corvettes produced in 1965, and 22,229 Corvettes produced overall for 1965, this Fuelie is certainly rare and thus collectible.

This Fuelie held a proud place in the collection of the legendary NHRA champion, Joe Amato. Joe was a 5 time champion , and was able to enjoy 52 event victories in his illustrious NHRA top fuel career. Joe also holds the distinction of being the first NHRA top fuel driver to exceed 260 mph and then later, 280 mph. Owing to its years of gentle use, and regular maintenance, this car was treated to a mild restoration and beautiful repaint prior to leaving Joe's collection in late 2009.

Pull the hood lever and lift open the hood ,you'll find a very tidy and sharp looking engine bay. The L84 option engine, not only delivers 375 HP, the highest available ever for a fuelie, but is also a sight to behold. The chevy orange small block is crowned with finned aluminum valve covers and a machine finished fuel injection unit . This L84 Fuelie sports the casting code of 3782870, along with an engine suffix code of "HG" indicating a correct 327 cu in and 375 HP, fuel injected, high lift cam with 4 speed manual. Moving your gaze down towards the inner fenders you will find a splendid black restored finish throughout. All the rubber and hoses are like new, the steering linkage is totally refreshed and has all of the correct factory markings. A factory Power steering unit transforms the driving capabilities of the C2 Stingrays, making them a joy to drive even in tight quarters and heavier traffic.

This lovely coupe provides a certain elegance with its relatively rare MM code Milano Maroon color scheme. The correct Lacquer paint lavished upon this Stingray shows extremely well and leaps off the body, catching the eye of any car enthusiast . The chrome and all brightwork match the quality of the the stunning of the paint. The chrome bumpers show off a mirror like finish, all the window surrounds bright and damage free. As with many great looking Stingrays, this example has been upgraded with the now legendary ground pounding side pipes and cast aluminum knock off wheels. The fresh sill plates and the properly painted door jambs present especially well. An impeccable dash pad and headliner, both in matching maroon, as well as clear lens and replated switchgear and levers round out a rare colored interior.
