Corvette put America back on the sports car map and Corvette owners in a class by themselves. C2 stood for 2nd Generation, but it was the Stingray name that really captured the essence of the 1963 to 1967 model years. The radical exterior styling of the Stingray was very purposeful, with peaked fenders, a long nose, and a short, bobbed tail the Chevrolet designers bragged about 'looks most stylists would be too timid to even suggest'. Quad headlamps were hidden - mounted in rotating sections that matched the sharp-edged front end with the "eyes" closed. Coupe doors were cut into the roof, which made entry/exit easier in such a low-slung closed car. The Stingray's interior carried a new interpretation of the twin-cowl Corvette dash motif with a full set of round gauges included a huge speedometer and tachometer. The control tower center was now somewhat slimmer containing the clock and a vertically situated radio. Now for its third season, the 1965 styling alterations were subtle with a smoothed-out hood now devoid of scoop indentations, a trio of working vertical exhaust vents in the front fenders that replaced the previous nonfunctional horizontal "speed lines," restyled wheel covers and rocker-panel moldings. The 1965 Corvette Stingray did become more ferocious with the mid-year debut of the big-blocks which ultimately spelled the end for the Rochester fuel injection system. Four-wheel disc brakes were also introduced which predicted better performance and wear - drum brakes remained available, however, as a $64.50 credit option, but only 316 of the 23,564 Corvettes built that year came with drums. A side exhaust system appeared as an option as did a telescopic steering wheel. Also available were alloy spinner rims, at US$322 a set. The Stingray's popularity continued in '65 however the rare model with only 8,186 produced was the Coupe.

In '65 Chevrolet proudly stated, 'Drive it. Really drive it. Then tell us about those $14,000 cars'. The Coupe retailed at $4,321.

This Nassau Blue 1965 Stingray was built at the St. Louis plant with a production date of November 27, 1964 and looks smashing. Under the hood of this Corvette and within a well maintained engine compartment is nestled the numbers matching L75 327/300HP. This was an optional $52.65 engine choice on the Chevrolet Order Sheet back in the day. The 327 has a Holley four-barrel carburetor and M-20 Muncie four-speed combination to provide a thrilling ride. This 327 certainly delivers enough muscle to ensure this Vette is ready for any style of road.

This Coupe looks sophisticated in the classic Nassau Blue. With 6,022 Stingrays leaving the factory dressed in Nassau Blue this was clearly the number one choice by the Corvette enthusiasts for '65. The beautiful medium blue exterior paint is very good with a nice factory period look of the day. Excellent glass and bright clear chrome all around. Underneath a well maintained tidy unrestored chassis. The distinctive stance of the Stingray is unmistakable as it sits on the optional original factory cast aluminum Knock-off Wheels mounted on classic Redline Tires.

Inside the driver sits in the White Bucket Seats on Blue carpet and with this combination the interior is bright and clean. The console traveling the length of the cockpit with a very nice wood grained steering wheel to handle what GM described as 'trigger-quick steering'. The entire interior provides that original factory look with excellent clear clean gauges surrounded by sharp chrome. The Blue Dash and White Door panels are in excellent condition. This Stingray has nice factory production features like the Drivers Chrome Outside-Mirror, Delco AM-FM Radio with Power Antenna and Back-Up Lamps within the tail lights.

As one Corvette advertisement was titled "Try this on the old psyche" for sure this Nassau Blue Stingray Coupe with the powerful 327/300HP can take you from your regular everyday world to some road handling excitement!
