The slogan for the Ford Motor Company in 1963 was "Total Performance". Evidence of this could be seen throughout the lineup but most notably was in the full size Galaxie line where Ford was going for dominance on the NASCAR circuit; from the new more aerodynamic semi fastback bodystyle to the powerful 427 engines. Rules at the time stated that engines used in racing had to be production motors which meant the ultimate beneficiary of this was the consumer. The "R" code 427 Galaxies were among the more powerful cars you could buy, coming in either single four barrel or dual quad setups rated at 410hp and 425hp respectively.

This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL is what Ford called a two door hardtop fastback finished in its correct colour of Rangoon Red. Inside you will find a black bucket seat interior with full length console around the 4 speed shifter. The style of the car is fantastic with lots of chrome and aluminum trim throughout the car but it is the small badge on the front of either front fender that simply read "427" that makes it truly special. Opening the hood shows the large oval shaped air breather on top of the dual four barrel carburetors. The 425hp version of Ford famous 427 remains very nicely detailed down to the exhaust manifolds. The car is currently equipped with polished Torque Thrust wheels which look terrific and seem to suit the style of the car. However it also comes complete with correct steel wheels with correct hubcaps which would give the car a slightly more modest and inconspicuous look. Having clearly been well maintained throughout the years, the car also comes with ownership history going back almost three decades to when it was titled in Tennessee before moving to sunny California. These cars were truly some of the earliest forms of the muscle cars, production car with a motor bred for racing. Ultimately Fords 427 would go on to further fame in Shelby's Cobra and much more.
