1960 Chevrolet El Camino

Last of the First Generation El Caminos

Chevrolet introduced the El Camino in 1959 as a direct response to Ford successful Ranchero. Built on the full size Chevrolet chassis, the early El Camino's were a combination of Bel Air and Brookwood two door wagons. They provided a wide variety of Chevrolet powertrains and a payload capacity ranging from 650 to 1,100 lbs. After out selling the Ranchero in 1959, the tables quickly turned for 1960 and after a slow sales year, Chevrolet quickly pulled the plug on the model until 1964 when it would comes back built on their mid-size passenger car chassis.

Restored in its correct colour of Roman Red, this 1960 Chevrolet El Camino has got great eye appeal. From the chrome to the large amount of aluminum trim, this car shows its roots coming from the late 1950's. The exterior look, much of which shared with the high scale Bel Air model gives this utilitarian car a high class look which continues on with the interior. A matching red and white seat, of course with the upholstery under protective plastic, complete the package. Open the hood and you will find a tastefully detailed small block Chevrolet engine backed by a 4 speed transmission and dual exhaust. From front to back this is a fascinating car to look at, from the very unique Chevrolet body lines carried over from 1959, the loads of trim and even wrap around windshield, these cars were the end of an era, among the last of the cars born in the 50's leading in to the muscle cars day ahead.
