1959 Ford Galaxie Convertible

LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1959 Galaxie Convertible.

The Ford Galaxie is a full-size car from 1959 through 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 to 1961 in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. The Galaxie was the counterpart to the Chevrolet Impala with some Galaxies having high-performance engines that helped lead the auto industry towards the muscle car era. In 1959 Ford had the Fairlane 500 as the top trim level then during that model year the Galaxie nameplate was added as an additional trim level to become the top model. These ‘59 Galaxie models carried both Fairlane 500 and Galaxie badging.

Today where familiar brand aesthetics in the car industry can easily hang around for a decade, it's amazing to look back and realize automakers were turning out jaw-dropping but completely different designs for many years in a row. That was the case between 1955 and 1960 as Ford did that and over time each distinct model design has become somewhat of an accepted classic design. In keeping with the era, the 1959 Galaxie was a chrome and stainless steel-bedecked two-tone colored vehicle. The stylish new body was the very image of late-1950s American automobile excess, though somewhat tamer in design with very subtle sweeping fins than its Chevrolet and Plymouth competitors. The ’59s may have been slightly conservative but with the new Thunderbird-look they came extremely close to outselling arch-rival Chevy’s all-new cars. Thunderbird class is in the front fender ornaments. For performance minded blue oval fans the Fords could be had with the large, high-compression FE block 352 cubic inch V8 with 300-horsepower, but most buyers of the day opted for more economical power.

The 1959 Ford Fairlanes were promoted as having "Thunderbird elegance". Advertising stated ‘Married in style to the Thunderbird…Glamour Car of the Year – Galaxie by Ford’.

This car is very nicely restored Galaxie Convertible that was built on July 8th at the Chester, PA assembly plant. This Galaxie is finished in correct color code “A” Raven Black  with a White convertible power top. The three tone cloth pattern of Red-White-Black interior known as Torch Red Sof-Textured Vinyl Bolster and Raven Pleated Sof-Textured vinyl, with bright chrome patterned door panel inserts.  All the above corresponds with the car’s trim tag. Powered by the optional 352 cubic inch 4 barrel engine known as the ‘Thunderbird Special” with 300 horsepower and backed by the Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Optioned with desirable and user friendly power steering, power brakes, power top, front bumperettes, rocker moldings, AM radio, dual outside mirrors, full wheel discs, wide whitewall tires and stainless steel fender skirts.

This 1959 Galaxie Convertible is definitely a true head turner and a wonderful  ‘drop-top weekend cruiser.”  Sitting in our main showroom, this Black Beauty most certainly grabs ones attention.  A very collectible, well optioned American classic finished in the most desirable color combination.
