1957 Cadillac Series 62 Two Door Coupe
For generations, the Cadillac name on a motor car has stood as the hallmark of all that is good and desirable in an automobile. Cadillac has long been associated with the world's most distinguished motorists demanding luxury and performance. In 1957, Cadillac continued their legacy of offering exclusive, expensive, stylish, and luxurious automobiles. Pricing began at $4,781 for the least expensive model and rose to $7,286 for the eye-catching Eldorado convertible. This was truly remarkable considering the average new car sold for $2,749 while the average worker earned $4,230 yearly.
The General Motors advertisements back in the day suggested - 'It has been rightly said the only true way to judge a Cadillac is to measure it against - a Cadillac!'
This 1957 Cadillac Sixty-Two Coupe is one of the more graceful designs to come from Harley Earl's GM design studio in the 1950s. Cadillac claimed the long, low-lying silhouette and the majesty and grace of its lines and contours represent a dramatic departure in advanced motorcar styling.
For 1957, Cadillac adopted a tubular X-frame, without side rails, on all models. This resulted in greater structural rigidity and provided for lower body lines without loss of useable space. This chassis contributed to an even quieter, smoother ride and allowed for reducing the overall height. Ball joint suspensions was a new technical feature adopted this year. The resulting car virtually hugged the road. It is powered by a 365 cubic-inch V8 with Rochester four barrel carburetors producing 300 HP.
New front end styling was marked by rubber bumper guard tips and dual, circular parking lamps set into the lower bumper section. Identifying the "standard" 62 models were vertical bright metal moldings, just forward of the rear wheel openings, highlighted by seven horizontal wind splits. At the upper end this fender break trim joined a horizontal molding that ran along a conical flare extending forward from the dual tail light theme which was used throughout the line. A crest medallion was seen on the forward angled 'shark-style' rear fins. The rear fender and deck contour was sleekly rounded and the wheel housing was trimmed with broad, sculptured stainless steel beauty panels. The stylish rear bumper had built-in outlets for the dual exhaust.
This particular car offered here has the official Cadillac Identification Card still mounted inside the hood. It states, back on October 28, 1957, this fine Cadillac was delivered to Raymond Higgins by Barnard Motors Inc. of Portland Oregon. Confirmed by the GM Data Plate its roster of accessories includes the 'E-Z EYE Glass', 'Electric Window Lifts'/Power Windows, Heater/Defroster, Electric 6 Way Control Seat, Delco Radio with signal seeking pre-selection/power antenna/speaker nestled between the dash and transmission hump. Other comfort features provided to the distinguished Cadillac owner was Power Steering, Power Brakes, Back-up Lamps, Clock, Day & Night Rear-view Mirror and Cadillac's innovative automatic headlight dimmer the Autronic Eye.
Eye catching in the beautiful two-tone combination of Tahoe Blue with Alpine White Top, these colors certainly highlight the famous Cadillac look. The interior invites you into a world of Cadillac comfort. The huge interior seating is in wonderful original condition. Trim code combination designates the Cadillac Medium Blue Neptune Pattern Cloth & Medium Blue Cloth Upholstery that truly inspires anyone enjoying the exceptional ride of the big Cadillac. This is the styling artistry of an era that only Cadillac could provide. Beautiful chrome wheels, shod in wide whitewall radial tires, are the finishing touch.
This 1957 model is another fine example of motoring excellence from Cadillac - the "Standard of the World" - the honored name in personal luxury cars.
