1956 Bel Air Convertible
While certain Chevrolet enthusiasts prefer the subtlety of the 1955 Chevrolet and others favor the more flamboyant 1957 models, many appreciate the 1956 line as the perfect balance of the two extremes. Subtle changes to the Chevy's body design in 1956 gave it a new and lighter appearance, while a growing list of available powertrain options proved that these cars were more than rolling sculptures. Thanks to the lower weight of the small-block V-8 and a high power-to-weight ratio, the V-8 powered 1956 Chevrolet models were rightly advertised by Chevrolet as the "Hot Ones."
This particular example has been finished in the distinctive two-tone Matador Red and white paint with a white convertible soft top. Chrome trim separates the two colours and a long stripe along the side of the vehicle gives the Bel Air a look of motion, even when standing still. The styling is clearly inspired after Cadillac models, with graceful front and rear chrome bumpers and tail fins extending outward. White wall tires complete the car, with feature small Chevrolet branding on the chrome wheels. Inside, double bench seats provide spacious accommodation, continuing the two tone style of red and white. The full width dash has luxurious chrome switches and is well suited to the red dash and steering wheel.
Under the hood is the 265 cu V8, featuring twin carburetors. This engine is mated to the powerglide transmission. Options on the car include power window, power brakes, radio, and power convertible top.
This Chevrolet Belair has been treated to a thorough ground up restoration . Photo documentation shows the entire process of the frame off, rotisserie style restoration. The end result is very impressive. Everything from the engine bay to the trunk area is completely finished. This Belair looks exactly like it would have when it rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan for the first time. This Belair has been very little use since the restoration and was acquired by Legendary Motorcar from a prominent private collector. The Bel Air holds a special place in automotive history and this Matador Red and white convertible is the perfect car for any 1950s collection.
