1937 Packard 1501 Convertible Coupe

First of the Refined Eight Cylinders

Packard Motor Company had survived the Great Depression remarkably well. They had rolled into the mid-30's with strong financials and continued to develop and refine the automobile. By 1937 they were still producing both Eight and Twelve cylinder cars, but they also introduced a new Eight Cylinder engine that year. It would be lighter, more powerful and due to a newly developed crankshaft and new timing setup, just as smooth, if not perhaps a little more so than the legendary Packard Twelve. The long narrow Eight cylinder engine also fit well with the long hood design which everyone will always associate with the 1930's era of the automobile.

This particular Packard 1501 Super Eight is the desirable Convertible Coupe Model. The beautiful body lines of the '37 Packard from the grill to the rumble seat. Finished in an attractive tan colour, showing just a touch of patina with matching wheels and wide white wall tires, this Packard has that great look of elegance found in the high end cars of the 1930's. Although it does show some aging, opening the door the interior is still an inviting sight and the view from the drivers' seat over the long extended hood with the Packard Swan above the radiator is an experience unlike others. Pop open the rumble seat to give two more people an extra unique experience. The straight eight fires easily and functions smoothly, just as you would expect. This car remains a very functional classic which can be driven and enjoyed for many years to come.
